Inviting Space

in Eureka Valley

John approached us with big ambitions for his space. He wanted separate spaces for dining, lounging, entertaining, and relaxing, and he wanted it all to be easily accessible from his living space. Luckily for him, these are just the type of challenges we embrace.

Our first move was to reorient his deck stairs leading down into the garden, an idea that had not crossed John’s mind in over a decade in the home.

Once this was done, it was clear that the space actually did have flow, and with sightlines running all the way to the back of the property, it just needed a visual to entice him out.

A bougainvillea at the rear fence added a swath of color and a decorative fountain served not only as an aesthetic centerpiece, but also a calming auditory element.

John had his furniture all chosen in advance, which was traditional in form but bright and expressive in color! A black slate tile beneath the deck and a calming sand set bluestone patio provided a neutral backdrop for the cushions to illuminate from.

What was once a forgotten part of the property is now a welcoming space. Whether entertaining 30+ friends or spending a quiet afternoon getting lost in a good book, this space is now a venue for almost any occasion.
